About this tool

If "cut out first" is on, the subject is separated with the same MediaPipe selfie model as the Background Remover. That model is downloaded from public CDNs the first time and then runs in your browser; it works best on people. If your image is already a transparent PNG, you can skip that step. A solid colour is painted behind the subject. A background image is scaled to cover the whole frame, centred and cropped as needed, so the output keeps the dimensions of your original photo. The result is saved as PNG.

Limits

  • Automatic cut-out uses the same portrait model as Background Remover. It is approximate, especially around hair.
  • The model is downloaded on first use. Your photos are processed in the browser and are not uploaded to SmartKitio.
  • This is not a passport-photo service. Official photos have their own rules for lighting, size, and editing.

How to use it

  1. Choose the photo.
  2. Pick a colour, or choose a background image.
  3. Keep "cut out first" on unless your photo already has a transparent background.
  4. Download the new image.

  • White background

    Choose #ffffff to place a portrait on plain white, a common requirement for profile photos.

  • Scenic background

    A 1920 × 1080 landscape behind a 1080 × 1350 portrait is scaled up and cropped to fill 1080 × 1350.

FAQ

Is this suitable for passport photos?
It can change the background colour, but official photos have strict rules on lighting, size, and editing. Check the rules of the issuing authority before using an edited photo.
Why are the edges rough?
Automatic segmentation is approximate, especially around hair. A background colour close to the original makes the edges less noticeable.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Both images stay in your browser. If cut-out is on, the segmentation model is downloaded once from a public CDN; the photos themselves are not uploaded.
