Image Compressor
Make photos smaller for email, websites, or upload limits by lowering the encoding quality. You can check the result and its file size before downloading.
Your input stays in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
About this tool
The image keeps its pixel dimensions and is re-encoded at the quality you choose, from 10% to 100% (80% by default). JPEG stays JPEG and WebP stays WebP. PNG is lossless and has no quality setting, so PNG files are saved as WebP, which usually makes them much smaller. Lower quality gives smaller files but more visible artefacts, especially around text and sharp edges. Because the image is redrawn on a canvas, metadata such as EXIF camera details and GPS location is not copied to the new file. To reduce size further, lower the resolution with the Image Resizer first.
How to use it
- Drop or choose an image (JPEG, PNG, or WebP).
- Move the quality slider. The preview and new file size update automatically.
- Compare the result with the original, then download it.
When to use it
- Meeting upload size limits on forms and portals
- Speeding up web pages with lighter images
- Sending photos by email or chat
Examples
Photo for email
A 4 MB phone photo at 70% quality is often under 1 MB with little visible difference. The exact size depends on the content of the photo.
Screenshot as PNG
A PNG screenshot is saved as WebP. Keep the quality high (85% or more) so small text stays sharp.
Already compressed
If a JPEG was saved at low quality before, compressing again gains little and can add artefacts.
