About this tool
Each word's first letter is uppercased and the rest of the word lowercased. This is simple title case: small words such as "and", "of", or "the" are capitalized too, and editorial styles such as AP or Chicago are not applied. A word joined by an apostrophe or hyphen is treated as one word, so only its first letter is capitalized ("well-known" becomes "Well-known"). Acronyms are lowercased after their first letter ("NASA" becomes "Nasa").
How to use it
- Paste your heading or list.
- Copy the title-cased result.
- Fix any small words or acronyms that your style guide treats differently.
Each word: first letter upper, rest lower
Examples
Heading
"the lord of the rings" becomes "The Lord Of The Rings".
Hyphenated word
"a well-known fact" becomes "A Well-known Fact".
FAQ
Why are "of" and "the" capitalized?
This converter capitalizes every word. AP, Chicago, and APA styles keep some short words lowercase; adjust those by hand.
What happens to acronyms?
Only the first letter stays uppercase, so "USA" becomes "Usa". Retype acronyms after converting.
Does it work with accented letters?
Yes. "école française" becomes "École Française".
