About this tool
Characters are counted as Unicode code points, so an accented letter such as é or an Arabic letter counts as one character. The "without spaces" figure removes all whitespace: spaces, tabs, and line breaks. Some emoji are made of several code points joined together (for example family or flag emoji) and count as more than one.
How to use it
- Paste or type your text into the editor.
- Read the character total, and the total without spaces, in the summary panel.
- Trim or rewrite until you are under the limit you are aiming for.
Characters = number of Unicode code points

- Writing meta descriptions around 150–160 characters

FAQ
Do spaces count as characters?
In the main total, yes. The second figure excludes spaces, tabs, and line breaks.
Why does an emoji count as 2 or more?
Many emoji are sequences of several code points, such as a base emoji plus a skin tone or a joiner. The count reflects code points, not what you see on screen.
Will this match a platform's limit exactly?
Not always. Some platforms count links as a fixed length or count certain characters as two. Use the number as a close guide and check in the platform before publishing.
