About this tool
Lines are shuffled with the Fisher–Yates algorithm, using random numbers from the browser's crypto.getRandomValues. Every line is kept, including blank ones, and each run gives a new order. For very long lists, the method of mapping random numbers to positions has a bias that is far too small to matter for everyday use.
How to use it
- Paste one item per line.
- Copy the shuffled list, or run it again for a different order.
Fisher–Yates on lines
Examples
Speaking order
Anna, Ben, Chloe, Dev become, for example, Chloe, Anna, Dev, Ben.
Remove blanks first
Blank lines are shuffled too, so remove them first if you do not want empty entries.
FAQ
Is the shuffle fair?
Fisher–Yates gives every order an equal chance, given unbiased random numbers. This implementation uses cryptographic random values, which is more than enough for draws and games.
Can I use it for a prize draw?
It is suitable for informal draws. For regulated contests, follow the rules that apply to you, which may require an audited method.
Are duplicates removed?
No. Use Remove Duplicate Lines first if needed.
