About this calculator
Ideal-weight formulas were originally developed for medical dosing estimates. They are height-based rules of thumb, not personal targets. BMI range is often a more useful everyday check.
How to calculate
Enter sex and height. The calculator reports Devine as the primary estimate, with Robinson and Miller for comparison, plus a BMI 18.5–24.9 band.
Devine (men): 50 + 2.3 × inches over 5 ft
Devine (women): 45.5 + 2.3 × inches over 5 ft
Examples
Woman, 165 cm
165 cm is about 65.0 inches, or 5 inches over 5 ft. Devine ≈ 45.5 + 2.3×5 = 57.0 kg.
FAQ
Which formula should I use?
Devine is the most commonly cited. Showing three formulas makes it clear these are estimates, not a single correct weight.
Why is there a BMI range as well?
The WHO healthy BMI band is a wider, more practical range than a single “ideal” number.
