SHA-512 Hash

Compute the SHA-512 digest of text when a system or specification asks for SHA-512.

Your input stays in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

About this tool

SHA-512 produces a 512-bit digest, written as 128 lowercase hex characters, and is computed with Web Crypto after UTF-8 encoding. It belongs to the same SHA-2 family as SHA-256 and gives a longer output. On 64-bit processors it can be as fast as or faster than SHA-256. Fast hashes like this one are not suitable for storing passwords. Use a slow password-hashing function such as Argon2, scrypt, or bcrypt for that.

How to use it

  1. Paste or type the text.
  2. Copy the 128-character digest.

FAQ

Is SHA-512 more secure than SHA-256?
Both are considered secure today. SHA-512 has a larger output; choose whichever your protocol or tool requires.
Can I shorten the digest?
Truncating is possible but reduces strength. SHA-512/256 is a standard truncated variant, but it is not the same as cutting this output in half.
Is my text uploaded?
No.
