MD5 Hash

Compute the MD5 digest of text, for example to compare it with a checksum published by a legacy system.

Your input stays in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

About this tool

MD5 produces a 128-bit digest, written as 32 lowercase hex characters. The text is UTF-8 encoded first. MD5 is broken for security purposes: researchers can create different inputs with the same hash, so do not use it for signatures, certificates, or integrity checks where someone might tamper with the data. It is still used as a quick checksum in older tools. Fast hashes like this one are not suitable for storing passwords. Use a slow password-hashing function such as Argon2, scrypt, or bcrypt for that.

How to use it

  1. Paste or type the text.
  2. Copy the 32-character MD5 digest.

FAQ

Can MD5 be decrypted?
No. A hash is one-way. However, MD5 of short or common inputs can be looked up in precomputed tables.
Why doesn't my MD5 match a file checksum?
This page hashes text, not files. Line endings and trailing newlines also change the result.
What should I use instead?
SHA-256 for integrity checks. For passwords, a dedicated password-hashing function.
