PDF Compress

Re-save a PDF in a more compact structure. This can shrink files that contain a lot of text, forms, or vector graphics, while leaving the content unchanged.

Your input stays in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

About this tool

The PDF is loaded and saved again with object streams, which pack the document's internal objects more tightly. Images are not downsampled or recompressed, so scan-heavy or photo-heavy PDFs may shrink very little, and sometimes the file can even get slightly larger. The benefit is that nothing is lost: text, images, and layout stay exactly the same.

Limits

  • Images inside the PDF are not recompressed or downsampled. Photo and scan PDFs may barely shrink, or grow slightly.
  • The page content and layout are not edited. This is not a quality slider.
  • Damaged or encrypted PDFs can fail to open in the browser.

How to use it

  1. Choose a PDF.
  2. Compare the new file size with the original.
  3. Download the result only if it is smaller.

Examples

  • Exported report

A text-heavy PDF exported from office software often has room to shrink.

  • Scanned document

A PDF made of page images usually changes little, because the images are left untouched.

FAQ

Why didn't my PDF get smaller?
Most of the file is probably images, which this tool does not recompress. Keep the original in that case.
Does it reduce quality?
No. Content is not changed, only the internal structure.
Are my files uploaded?
No.
