About this calculator
A discount is a reduction from an original price. This tool converts a percent off into a sale price, or works backwards from two prices to the discount rate.
How to calculate
Use “Percent off” when you know the original price and the discount. Use “Find percent off” when you know both the original and the sale price.
Sale price = Original × (1 − Discount / 100)
Discount % = ((Original − Sale) / Original) × 100
When to use it
- Checking a shop markdown
- Finding what percent a sale actually is
Examples
25% off $80
Savings are $20 and the sale price is $60.
Markdowns on an $80 price
| Off | Savings | Sale price |
|---|---|---|
| 10% | $8 | $72 |
| 20% | $16 | $64 |
| 25% | $20 | $60 |
| 50% | $40 | $40 |
FAQ
Does this include sales tax?
No. Apply tax to the discounted price if tax is charged after the discount.
Can I stack two discounts?
Apply the first discount to get a new price, then run the calculator again. Two 20% discounts are not 40% off.
