About this tool

Each character is picked uniformly at random from the combined character pool, using crypto.getRandomValues with rejection sampling so no character is favoured. The pool can include 26 lowercase letters, 26 uppercase letters, 10 digits, and 25 symbols (!@#$%^&*()-_=+[]{};:,.<>?). The page does not force every selected set to appear, so a short password may not contain a digit even when digits are enabled.

Limits

  • A short password can miss a character set even when that set is enabled. The generator does not force one character from each set.
  • This is not a password manager. Copy the result into one, and do not leave a real password in a shared screenshot.
  • The entropy figure assumes every character was chosen at random from the pool you selected.

How to use it

  1. Set the length. 16 or more is a good default for accounts.
  2. Tick the character sets the site allows.
  3. Press Generate, then copy the password into your password manager.
Entropy (bits) = length × log₂(pool size)

Examples

  • All four sets, 16 characters

    The pool has 87 characters, so the password has about 16 × log₂(87) ≈ 103 bits of entropy.

  • Digits only, 6 characters

    10⁶ = 1,000,000 possible PINs, about 20 bits. This is only suitable where attempts are rate-limited.

FAQ

How long should my password be?
For accounts protected by a password manager, 16 or more random characters is a common recommendation. Length adds more strength than extra symbol types.
Why doesn't my password contain a number?
Characters are drawn at random from the whole pool, so a given set may not appear, especially in short passwords. Generate again if a site requires one of each.
Is the password sent anywhere?
No. It is generated in your browser and disappears when you leave the page.
